Hospital in Pokola

Because of our operations in the northern part of the Congo DLH is responsible for managing a forest area of approximately 1.3 million hectares and the welfare of 1.700 employees and another 30.000 inhabitants.

DLH’s subsidiary in the Congo, CIB, owns and runs a hospital in Pokola which is considered the best equipped hospital in the northern part of the country. All inhabitants in the forest area are offered free consultation, irrespective of whether they are employees of the group or not. The hospital offers treatment for malaria, tuberculosis and diarrhoea etc. as well as assistance at childbirths. The hospital experiences an increasing need for treatment in connection with HIV/AIDS.

HIV/Aids

For years CIB (DLH) has actively worked to combat HIV/AIDS by initiating information campaigns and projects to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and how to avoid it. Moreover, the hospital offers HIV tests, counselling and treatment. Further efforts are still needed and DLH are investigating the possibility of establishing a more comprehensive health care project aimed at reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS in the area of Pokola and in securing access to crucial treatment.

Mosquito nets to fight malaria

We have asked our customers and partners not to bring us presents for our anniversary. Instead we want them to make a contribution for mosquito nets. Our employees can also contribute and for every mosquito net they give, we will add one and give them all to Congo.

The reason is that malaria is a significant problem in the Congo. Almost 200 new cases of malaria are reported every day and it is one of the most predominant reasons for illness among DLH employees in the Congo. Giving out mosquito nets is one important effort that can help improve health conditions in the area. Our goal is to raise enough funds to provide mosquito nets for all local inhabitants in DLH’s forest area in the Congo.
